Default cambelt help please

had a go at changing the belt today, followed my manuals and got the belt off which was easy ,then compressed the tensioner and put in a pin that i can remove when i have fitted the new belt to take up the slack, refitted as reverse order of how it came off, but cant get it back on as its like the belt is to small but it's the same as the one that has came off as i had it from my subaru garage and they are the same numbers on there too, any advice or help would be very great full

Double check the timing marks are lined up with the marks on the new belt.
The dotted line on the cam belt lines up with the crank pulley.
Right hand Inlet Cam pulley - single mark at 12 oClock, double mark at 6 oClock, arrow at 2 oClock.
Right hand Exhaust Pulley - double mark at 12,single at 9,arrow at 2.
Left hand exhaust pulley - put the single mark about 5,put belt on with belt mark lining up and hold it to the pulley with a bulldog clip.
Left hand Inlet pulley - put the single mark about 2,put belt on with belt mark lining up and hold with bulldog clip.
Turn both Left hand pulleys at the same time to line pulley marks up to the Inner cover marks.
This will give you enough slack to drop the Tensioner in and tighten.
Double check all marks, pull the tensioner pin, remove clips and rotate engine by HAND a couple of full revolutions untill cam pulley marks line up again.
Hope this helps you.
