First happened yesterday morning,went to pull away and noticed a sticky grindy sort of noise coming from the rear passenger side of the car (03 sti)

Well around 5 minutes later,driving along our o so smooth roads that frequent our great highways,and noticed a dull thud coming from the same area,this now persists every time i hit a dip/rough patch/pot hole/sunk grate etc etc

could the two be related ?

Well aware of the rear shocker problem on these cars,but its a bizarre coincidence if the shocker has gone at exactly the same time as the handbrake sticking!

Check the rear anti roll bar bushes that my have tightened. Spray (drown) WD40 on them first and see if it goes away.
If so, remove and grease.(WD40 is Not a lubricant but will un seize the part.)
