NO DONT WRAP STD HEADERS/ MANIFOLD

The std items cant take the extra heat when wrapped and cause them to crack and wreck them only safe on stainless steel

I have my o/e ones wrapped and ported without any problems at all,As do many others.

Although i dont think theres any point in wrapping them as a starting point.

What other mods do you have?

Cooltek seem to say the same about wrapping cast manifolds on their website
exhaust heat wrap

Possibly the ceramic exhaust coating could be they way to go. The maufacturers say it can be done. I guess as you can internally coat as well it would help stop the heat getting into the manifold in the first place Coating Exhaust Manifolds

Very happy with my ported headers which I've wrapped. I think the cause of failure is when they're OVER wrapped and create hot spots. If they're the same temp all over they will be OK. Because of that ceramic coating is definitely a good option for complex shapes. But plain heat wrap does it's job well as long as you're not having to do too much overlapping. I used 1" instead of 2" wide wrap on my headers for just that reason, it's easier to get into the nooks and crannies without over-insulating.

Harvey (amongst others) has been wrapping oem cast headers for ages. Mine have been for 12+ months without a problem.
