Loss of power at high revs ??
I have a 1995 Subaru WRX SA Wagon (Auto) and I am experiencing a problem with loss of boost at over 4,500 rpm ??
The boost is fine from about 2,800 rpm but just fades away at high revs – Any one knows what could be wrong??

Hi sorry no boost gadge fitted, the car is a standard Jap Import WRX 220bhp Auto Wagon SA Model.
Turbo is a TD04
When you hit 3k revs the turbo spools up but at about 4.5k the boost just fades away - No missfire or any thing like that just power loss ??

are you burning oil mate?its a long shot but if you are it could be piston rings on the way out. Since its only happrning at high revs when there is more compression!

The strange thing is if you open the throttle progressively the boost seems fine but if you floor it the auto changes up to high revs and it just seems that there is now boost power there !
You also hear very little turbo whine at high revs.
Could it be a faulty dump valve ??

i have the same problem. I have a 96 WRX auto and when i gently apply the throttle and hold it about half way or three quarters, the car accelerates significantly faster than when i floor it.
I also seem to run out of boost at higher revs.
Coudl it be that the turbo is quite small and runing out of boost?
I look forward to hearing from all you experts, poss David at API
David, you are just down the road from me and i need to come and see you to do some work.
Regards
Jason
