In my experience of cars any hole/break in the exhaust system will have a negative effect on both, and will get worse quickly.

No offence meant mate with the joke

Couldnt give you a def answer there mate, but I know a man who can

David at Welcome to the API website will be able to advise and supply anything you need.

Closed now, but try him Monday morning.

Failing that you could try Essex Subaru Breakers they will stock the standard items, and may also have decats try your luck.

HKS downpipe was good for me.
Do a search on here for ESL and you should find a whole load of people who have them.

yes and no, if the downpipe has been removed recently, then yes. But if not the bolts holding it in can be seized and be a bugger to remove - then no.

Might pay to check what's fitted at the moment...

Mine is a 93 and already had a U8 fitted before I swapped it for another chipped U8... (saved me mucking up soldering in the new chip...lol) so it might be a waste of money for you if it's already there.

Ady.

nope you already have 1 in your car (2c,w6,u8 are standard ecus upto sept 95 then changed to Z4) might be worth looking at the ecu (under the passenger footwell) to see what 1 you have already.
If you want more power you have 3 choices (in no order)
1: ESL chip (do a search on here)
2: Z4 ecu
(WRX/STi Saloon ECU's 2C, U8, W6, W9 - As above, 11.47psi held to redline. Fuel-cut 14.57psi
WRX (1995/96) ECU Z4 - 12.71psi, dropping to 11.78psi @ 6600rpm. Fuel-cut 15.65psi.
3: Remappable ecu.

i think the 280ps ecus are 3 plug whereas the early ones are 4 plug.
Try www.enduringsolutions.com for the ESL chip it's more expensive than a z4 but possibly a more flexible solution.

You may as well use the ecu you already have in your car that would be the easiest (and cheapest way).
Go onto the esl website (have a good read as they seem to be starting to bee able to remap them)and speak to them and they can give you advice on what they can do for your car and you can tell them what you want from the car.
