Default Blue smoke when warm?

Ive just purchased an Impreza Turbo 2000 with 74k on the clock. Just have a slight query, in that; when the car is fully warmed up and is left to idle for a few minutes it lets a bit of blue smoke out. It never does it when driving; on or off boost or when cold. It had a bottom end rebuild at 57k, with forged pistons and billet rods, with a second-hand turbo added.

I have been advised that it is very likely to be the oil seals in the turbo, which it could be as it wasn't a brand new unit added. Does this sound right? What else could it possibly be??

Right-0, good to know what it is. Anyone else care to confirm that??

Also, which is the best turbo to get? I want over 300bhp but reliability. Is this possible? Car has a good few mods already (forged pistons, billet rods) so could handle the boost I guess?

depends on ultimate power, in my opinion always overspec so you have more headroom to play with in the future. A td05 will get you over 300bhp with supporting mods and some of the vf series turbos

Not to worry you though or anything but I find it strange that thousands would have probably been spent on rebuilding the engine to the spec you say, and then adding a 2nd hand turbo. Do you have reciepts for the engine work?

I actually worded that original post wrongly; the turbo was a re-conditioned vf30 unit. Yeah I have reciept's for the all the parts (these were bought from America) and the actual re-build itself. I have only bought the car recently off a friend, so I know the history of it.

Which type of VF?? VF34?

So if the turbo oil seals go can it be fixed or has it got to be a new turbo.
Thanks Neil

some turbos you can get the repair kits (td05 and I think the td04), not sure on the vf series may need to be sent away for repair and balancing.
