stretching silicone (ooh, er...)
Hey people,
Weird question, but how much would your average silicone tubing stretch (circumference wise) before splitting?
I'm trying to fit a silicone hose to a pipe that has one of those "lips" at the end to stop hoses coming off (I guess it's really there to stop the metal hose clips falling off the edge).
Anyway, my tube has an outside diameter of 71mm and the silicone pipe has an internal diameter of 69mm. At the 'bump' in the metal pipe, I'd say the diameter is more like 73mm.
Is the tube likely to split from the stretching, or is it completely normal that the silicone tube internal diameter is less at "rest" than after fitting? (An extra 4mm diameter at the "bump" would equate to about 13mm stretch of the tube sideways (with the complete circumference at rest being 216mm)).
As a side note, it's a complete bugger of a job to get these silicone tubes on. I've managed to get one on, but gave up on the second one last night after bruising my thumb and crushing my palm

yeah normal..
if you need to lube it to get it on then use something that will dry non-slippy.. like brake cleaner or hair spray.. otherwise it will just get blown off when on boost if you use something that remains slippy when dry.
Also heating the silicone helps it stretch.
