Default opened ECU and found this

Anyone came across this chip number before.. i was about to install my new ESL daughterboard chip and stumbled across this.

Any theories or advice on what this could be. Never driven the car before as i bought it with a goosed cylinder head si cant advise on what boost etc it was running. Its out of a 1994 WRX 240 ps version...

I would guess that it's like an ESL chip except from a japanese tuner.
Could it be the reason the cylinder head was knackered?

It's an STi Chip. probably from an STi1 or STi 1 RA.
Label looks indenticle although not sure about the number printed on it.

dunno. i got a new head. waiting on that arriving.. I managed to get a head second hand which is cost effective. The oil gallery has siezed in the left hand side head due to it not being cleaned correctly. only on 1 camshaft cap.. So it wont haveanything to do with the goosed head as we all know the ecu doesnt control the oil pump.

Pistons are fine.. not a hint of det. Its being changed anyway... its being cut out and the ESL daughterboard replacing it.

It would be worthwhile sourcing a bog std WRX ECU, then selling this one on - unless time is an issue and you have experience of desoldering double sided PCB's

Dan,

I'll give you £40 for it if no-one else wants it. I need one for some ECU development work.

Its more than likely a STI mapped ECU that came on the very 1st STI RA's, which basically were WRX RA's sent to STI for some extra bits (DCCD etc) and I believe they added the chip at STI.

Depends how you drive it really. Floor it everywhere and the engine will break. Just drive whilst being aware that the chip suits the stronger STI engine internal components...

You should budget to have it changed at some point.
