Question Help - One of my keys has died - do I have to buy a new one?

The immobiliser button has stopped working on one of the keys of my UK WRX MY03. I have changed the battery but it is still kaput. It was getting progressively more difficult to make it work - at times the button had to be pressed quite firmly.

Is there any alternative to being charged an arm and leg at the dealer (with a 60k service coming up the bank balance is already looking like being rather stretched)?

Do a search for key fob reprogram or similar words & you'll find everything you need. Thats assuming your fob is not broken.

Maybe dirt in the switch bit under the button. Don't know if this is accessible. You could try spraying it with some switch cleaning spray.

hi
a guy once told me to open your car with the spare once every other month or so.......if not the ecu will ignore the other key once the entries have reached a certain preset number with one key only. (only need to open and close not start up).

not sure if i believe that...but i always use spare once in a while anyway cos i know what they like to charge for these things!

cheers
