Default Fuel consumtion Is this normal

Only had the car a few days it's a 93 wrx never had one before so don't really know anythin about them, basicly i did about 200miles today and it cost me about 60quid of shell v-power!!!
Is this normal?
Didn't really give it any stick just the odd blast to overtake, any advise would be good.
If it makes any difference it's got enlarged decat downpipe, sports centre cat, crappy K&N, tubular manifold, magnex system, think thats it.
Thanks for any help.

Well I have a 1993 WRX, sports cat, and slightly larger 440cc injectors - about 300bhp at 1.2bar I suspect and I get around 230-250 miles per tank of motorway driving (not cruising as its usually at 90-100mph) so I'd say you wern't far off normal. I'm using an ESL chip on mine which apparently does give slightly better economy off boost. (would recommend one with your mods if you dont already have one, gives about 280bhp with just a decat and uprated induction + is mapped properly for uk super)

1993 has a 50litre tank I think. Mine takes £45 and thats a 1993. I have a full de-cat, k&n panel filter, bailey dv and chip running 16.5psi and I get better fuel economy than standard and manage 280miles per tank.

so on £60 should get 350miles... If you havent got a chip/ecu with a suitable map for your mods then it wont be running at its best and fueling will be off.

If you havent already got one then yes definatly.

The last quater of a tank does go down really quick but there is about 12liters of fuel in the last quater and about 10 litres below the red... but I wouldnt try and see how long you last when you reach the red. Go around a corner to quick and all the fuel goes to the opposite side to the pump and you will lose fuel pressure and run lean/missfire.

so your £20 would = 25litres + 10 for the last quater +10 for below the red and your at 45 litres for the tank roughly but it does sound right.

Theres a fair bit of mystery about early fuel tanks. I have a 1993 wagon and it definately has a 60l tank. I have run it to the point where it has taken 57 litres. I also know that when the needle is flush with the empty line it still has 15 litres left in the tank. There are more than a few people on here who say they cannot get more than 40 quid into the tank so there must be something in it. Probably best to run the car to the empty line and fill her up. Assume you have 1/4 of a tank left when on the empty line so if it take 45l then you have a 60l tank, if it only takes 35l you probably have a 50l tank, any less than this and you have one of these mystery fuel tanks.

thats weird?

I know in an Early Impreza Manual I have it says 50litres for the turbo model and 40 litres for the sport, maybe some sport tanks were fitted to the turbo

Mine does bout 110-115mile per quarter tank. ESL plus minor mods and 99 RON. Normal driving, not always on boost, but I do like to play from time to time. Why have a Scoob and worry bout fuel.

Should have bought a Corsa!!!!

Fuel comp of a standard 93 WRX and UK Turbo ECU wful, think about a Z4 ECU or a chip, better base map, more economic on fuel but more power....

Wink

I have 2003 new age WRX SL Wagon. No Mods as yet, just a K+N filter and i got 300 miles per fill up which is about £45. I thought mine had a 50 Litre tank.

However above is on my normal mixed driving to/from work.

If i am out for a play in the WRX i can get down to 220 miles per tanks...

But it is a fun way of burning money...

I had a rep car before, a Mondeo 2.0 Ghia X and got 450+ per tank. But i only kept the car 2 years as i got sooooo bored of it!!

I lost S**t loads on the thing, should have gone straight for a scooby as the money i lost on the P/X would have paid for a years fuel in the Impreza... you live and learn..

Mornin.

Has anyone noticed a marked increase in fuel consumption using the new shell vpower?

I used to get 70 miles to a quarter tank on optimax - without fail! But now, it more like 55 or 60 miles. Not a great difference but it adds up over the weeks!!

I don't think it's related to nay mechanical gremlins, as the fuel econ does improve on Tesco 99. Perhaps its just the nature of the vPower.

You know that makes sense!! So my right foot is to blame.

BAD FOOT! I'm gonna learn you. Now write out 100 times 'the throttle is NOT a switch it is a delicate flower and must NOT simply be mashed to the floor at every opportunity'

On seconds thoughts, who am I kidding!!
