Default hoovering type noise

I have recently started getting a slight humming noise on my 99 uk when starting her up. Its very slight but it kinda sounds like when i used to be on college holiday and trying to have a lay in and me mum starts hoovering downstairs

Any ideas what this could be? I also get the engine warning light on every so often and i sometimes on the dual carriageway get sudden fits as if power builds up then vroooooom it comes thru all at once, connected do you think or separate problems?

any advice is very much appreciated.

easy mate, get on your back and look up under the dash, as you sit in the car your left knee will be close to the connectors you are looking for, with your head under the dash locate the 2 black connectors and connect them (there wil be some green ones to but leave them for now) once connected turn the key to the on position and count the flashes.

first slow flashes then fast.

so 2 slow and 2 fast would be error code 22.
