Default Is the EJ25 short engine the same as EJ257?

Or is the ej25 only NA & not a turbo engine?

I am panicking a bit because I have bought the short engine below (it was despatched yesterday) & I have just noticed in the pictures that it has ej25 on the block & not ej257 as I expected.

Can someone have a look at the pictures for me & tell me what you think?

Cheers chaps

The EJ257 engines have just EJ25 on the block, just like an EJ207 engine still only has EJ20 on the block.

I've been looking at these blocks recently.

How much bhp/torque can these handle in standard form?

Will it be ok to run these with MY99/00 UK Heads?
I know STI 5/6 heads are ideal but they are quite expensive is there still going to be significant gains if i use the UK heads?

I'm looking to get around 450/450 using a MD321T turbo.

I've got the gearbox aswell as all the other suporting mods sorted i.e fueling, induction, exhaust,FMIC.

If I get close to 400bhp & 400 lbs of torque I will be quite happy my engine tuner says we will aim for 350 until I upgrade to FMIC, 450 will probably on the very limit after the FMIC, but I am sure someone on here will put me right.

I'm going to be adding an uprated oil pump aswell.

Just wondered at what point (power) i would need to uprate the pistons and/or the rods?

If was was going to uprate i would also add ACL bearings aswell.

Scooby Clinic | The UK's Largest Independent Subaru Specialists click on the tuning sections then see the 2.5 upgrade part. Looks like 450 will be too much on standard internals

I would be inclined to make the bottom end as strong as possible - Steel Rods and Forged Pistons - make's sense to do it now because if you dont,it will always be at the back of your mind when doing future mods.
Make it " Future Proof ", because once you have achieved your 400/400 target - Great - you will be happy for a while but you just know....................
Let's see if we can get 480 brake out of it !!

It gets pretty addictive hp hunting & I agree with you totally, however I wasn't expecting to do the convertion until much later on. Unfortunately one of my head gaskets has already gone & it is leaking gases into the coolant. Because of £££ I am just going to get the heads overhauled & chuck in the standard 2.5 STI block as it is because the engine needs to come out anyway.

I couldn't believe the price of sti shortblocks from the US. With the help of the exchange rate it was under £1100 delivered with gaskets (which are no good apparently fo version 4)+ whatever customs mug me for in duty & vat.
