Default Does exhaust wrapping really do anything?

Looking to wrap my exhaust soon, but however, it seems to be that there is not much point from hearing what people say...

Apparently its too much effort for very little.

Easy to do? Seems cheap enough from fleebay

It's not hard just a bit of a pain in the *** (can be time consuming) especially if you have true equal length headers like i do. It doesn't last long either you will be very lucky for it to last a year. Mine have unrapped/ burnt through and i just can't be asked to do them again. I must say i haven't noticed any great decrease in spool time. I'm honestly thinking of taking them off and having them ceramic coated as it's costing me around 70 quid every time to rap em,

Mate i disagree the temprature and the wind blast of 150mph speeds will eventually **** the glass fibre lagging i don't care who wraps em.

I doubt it you will actually notice any physical difference. it's probably more of a case of it helping with other mods for a combined effect

Buy decent wrap and it's for life, not just for christmas. The cheapo stuff looks tatty straight out of the box and I wouldn't be surpirises if it fell off within weeks. The good stuff is bloody pricey though but you get what you pay for.

There are a few pro's to wrapping which include improved spool up due to hot exhaust gasses flowing better that cool gasses, increased scavanging (sp?) effect and a measurable reduction in under bonnet temps. The only con is the increased heat can crack headers but again, only the cheap knock off ones. If you buy quality it's a win/win.

When you say you're looking to 'wrap your exhaust'. What bit of your exhaust. Up-pipe particularly will help reduce under bonnet temps especially if you have removed the heat-shield, as will the downpipe. I can't comment on the headers as mine are standard unwrapped. I have a prodrive sports cat and the heat insulation is built into the fat cat bit just in the centre of the pipe. It's not worth wrapping any further than the bottom of the downpipe.

I got a wrapped up-pipe to keep temps down so I don't know if the increased flow is measurable in anything but the highest tuned engines - I suspect that other restrictions will outweigh any improved flow, but I suppose every little helps eh.
