Default vf23 or td05

Hi all, I have a 97/98 type r impreza and unfortunatley the vf23 packed up so looking for a temporary replacement until i decide on which mods and how far i'm going to take the car. it already has a 3'' system turbo back, air filter, front mount intercooler. should i put a td05 on or opt for a simple like for like swap of the vf23. If i go for a td05 and all i can get hold of is a pre 97 model how much would i expect to pay to convert to front entry?

if you fit a TD05 then you will need it mapped or checked on that turbo for sufficent fuelling and no det.. VF23 will be straight fit and no need to remap it.. td05 is a better turbo imho and will be better for future mods..
Front entry covers vary in price.. I think Andy.F, Mark @ Lateral, Paul @ Zen can all convert a TD05 to front entry.

Both turbos are dinosaurs.
Try converting to a FE 20g /white rabbit if you want to be original.

The td05 may be a dinosaur, but it doesn't mean that's not a strong turbo which can make good power and they are very cheap.

You will need a remap, though.

I'm going to go for a TD05 on a new-age car and I'm aiming for 350bhp (at the crank).

And what is the exhaust side of a 20g??
A: td05!!

Unless your talking about a td06 20g not the best choice of turbo on a 2 ltr.
