Where does the ECU pick up the vehicle speed feed?
I am having an intermittant fault with the speedo not giving a reading on MY95 WRX and noticed that when the speedo isn't working I get no speed reading on the PFC hand controller either.
Does that mean that the speedo clock has an electrical output to the ECU?
Also I am hoping that the problem is simply the speedo cable being loose or something equally as minor. I am assuming that the KMH to MPH convertor is attached to the back of the clocks? Do they have a tendancy to break down at all?

Yes it does.

Depends which type of convertor you have, some are at the back of the speedo & others usually inbetween the 2 speedo cables.
Common faults tend to be loose speedo cable (missing spring type clip) or even damaged inner cable/spindle

Thanks for your reply. There are two speedo cables , is this assuming that the convertor is inline with the original cable thus splitting it in two?

Well there is 1 long cable from the back of the speedo clock which fits into the short cable (push in fit & held in place with a clip)
The short cable with a threaded end fits into the gearbox .
Normally the convertor fits between the 2 cables.

On mine the converter is located on the cable running off the gearbox under the turbo pretty close to where the cable attaches to the gearbox. Mine stopped working due to the grease seizing up in the converter itself (common problem apparently) i just stripped it down and put new grease in.
