Default TD05 20G Anyone got fitted to classic STI???

As the title states, what are the drawbacks from having this turbo fitted??
I would like genuine answers please, as I'm thinking of getting one very soon, and any personal experience gratefully received.
Thanks

Graham "911" has one fitted to his STI V3, he is running 380bhp, apexi and front mount. I have one fitted to my car, but this is a standard Impreza with a 2.5 sti bottom end. My own car develops 1 bar @ 2800rpm, I would expect on a 2 litre that 1bar of boost would come in just after 3000rpm

With the right supporting parts and a good map you will be surprised how sweet this turbo can be despite it's 'robust' spec.
If you keep the engine in boost the performance is wonderful; enough to overcome grip like this shot:

If you have a lot of time read the first 10 pages or so of this thread of my '20g Adventure'

The turbos look like this; you can get an impression of what effect the 20g will have!

If you want a touch calmer engine with a bit more low/mid-range try an 18G.

Da One, it's Probably a vf 23

As Graham has said and from my experience when fitted along with the right supporting mods and mapped properly its a surprisingly good turbo on an 2ltr STi, as you'd expect it spools later than std vf turbos but they won't make the kind of power the 20g will.

The only other possible problem is some 20g's mainly the early units ( i think)can suffer from compressor surge but it is possible to map around it by not running high boost in the mid range.

My 20g was tweeked by AndyF but has never suffered any poor characteristics whatever.

The other turbo is the stock V3 unit.

Today I'm at 1.6 bar at around 4500 to 6500 tailing off to 1.3 (iirc)

A very important component in all this is the MAPPER!

He knows what he is doing, and he has competed in motorsport over the years, goes a long way in my book.
