I know it's not as simple as the 'bright' switch, but does anyone know if it's practical to dim LED's in a gauge. Some of the latest Autometer ones look OK, but are just too damned bright.

I've found articles explaining the principal, e.g.

but would rather just buy something. So has anyone made a LED dimmer or bought one ?

If not I'll just buy a set of Autogauge Sports Comp gauges - black faced with green illumination to match the bugeye clocks.

Well as you've probably read, it's not as simple as giving it less current which you could with a normal incandescent bulb. You could try putting some kind of translucent cover over one?

Just seen this thread whilst looking for something else.

It is possible to 'Dim' LEDS by something called Pulse Width Modulation or PWM. I have done this using a small microprocessor chip in another application.

Basically it turns the LED on and off at a set rate and the result looks like the LED is dimmed.
