dodgy ignition barrel
I have never thought about asking this question before as i have been too busy sorting other things out on the scoob, but now i am getting to the stage where i am going to try and fix it.
I wonder if anyone has come across this problem before??
Sometimes, (it seems not to ever matter when) when i get into the car put the key in and turn it to start, just the lights on the dash light up as they should but the car does not turn over, so i take the key out and try again, sometimes i might have to do this three or four times, and sometimes it starts as it should. Any suggestions to what could be the problem, the alrm and immobiliser seem to work as it all should, the barrel is not wobbly, the key looks fine, and it does happen with both keys......, any thoughts??

The best thing to do would be to put a metre on the starter solonoid and check for power when this happens. If you have power when you try to crank,Then its a starter problem. It would be a good idea to clean all the connections to the starter anyway Including the main eath lead.

Underneath the inter cooler on the nearside bolted to the gear box you will find the starter with the soloniod on top. There is a thick main lead which is worth unbolting and cleaning and also the main earth lead will be bolted to the gearbox some where. There is also a small exciter lead which will either be a push fit or have a 10mm nut holding it on. This is the wire you need to check for power when the ignition switch is in the crank poosition.
