Default sti ra engine

can anyone tell me if the crank rods and pistons on a 95 sti ra are the same as other imprezas across the range ?

Hi Mate, welome to the site.

No the pistons and rods will not be the same aross the whole range.
The 1995 STI uses the EJ20G engine with forged pistons. The pistons and rods will be the same in any STI from 1994 to early 1996.(STI 1 and STI 2)
It also adopts a closed deck.

From late 1996 the STI 3 onwards used the EJ20K (Phase one and two) engine and different pistons.

Only the STI models used forged pistons.

so is it just the closed deck block and stronger pistons the define the short motor on v2 ra's making the rods and crank standard wrx fare ????

All the early WRX/STI's had the closed block, the Rods are stronger in the STI however the crank would be the same for the same series WRX.
