Default decat downpipe question

I fitted a turbo back decat to my bugeye JDM STI. The system I got was not the easiest to fit, but neverthe less I got there in the end.
When I removed the O/E Subaru downpipe there was no gasket or sealant between it and the Turbo, so natrually I assumed there was no need to apply any with the new system (Other than the Centre section and backbox which had gaskets and sealant applied)
Now I find I have a leak between the turbo and the downpipe, Ive contacted the seller and he says no gasket is to be applied here.

Would it be ok if I just put some gasket seal (putty) between the turbo and downpipe, Or is there anything else I can use?

cheers

James

Seller is talking bollox.
Buy an OE downpipe gasket, about 12quid or so. Easily sourced.

Looks like this..

Not sure about the bugeye but there was a gasket on my classic when I did mine. would be a bit wary about just putting putty on there as if it breaks off there is a small chance it could go into the turbo. Personally if you have the old downpipe find a motor factor who can cut gaskets for you and get them to cut you one

Funky spider is right.
Always a gasket there, and fitted 'dry', no need for sealer.

I'm right, I'm right ! woo

Maybe I could have phrased it better lol - The advice from the seller appears to be incorrect. It is recommended that you source the appropriate OE gasket for minimum outlay either from an online source or subaru themselves.

If doing the up-pipe that also requires gaskets and can be purchased from the same place.

Thanks for the advice guys.
Ive ordered a nice new gasket set, should do the trick.

No need to do the up-pipe, its a jdm sti.

Hmmmm its not a good idea to decat JDM STi's especially new age ones unless they are remapped, they can spike and this causes det, which in turn causes engine damage, which in turn causes engine failure, which in turn isnt cheap to fix.
Dont rag your car, get it remapped if you aint done so already!
