check engine light on early impreza
i have recently been had an occuring check engine engine light on but its goes off by itself after a while. i have check and its reading mAF. but the cars runs fines and no hesitation. What could be causing this problem? This is from a v3 type r
By the way i am running a Greddy emanage blue and have check all the wiring and it seems fine

since changing the afm i am looking at upgrading it to a Z32 AFM but would require a wiring diagram for the units for it to convert to subaru signals. Since i also have emanage i might be able to retune it

ok mate.
same problem with me.
Subaru recently issued a notice on the early impreza sighting an external switch on the gearbox being the cause. apparently it resonates and the ECU picks this up as a fault. the more you push the higher the vibration - thus the light comes on...but goes off when you drive gently after 100 miles or so.
I have my 01 bugeye going into a garage on Wednesday for a revised subaru switch (£30) which takes 30 mins to fit. I will wait to see if this sorts it out.
Other possibles are:
1. spark plugs / colipacks
2. exhaust temperature gas
3. O2 sensor faulty
4. Camshaft position sensor fault
See how it goes - I'm betting on the bulletin being issued by Subaru identifying switch resonation being the problem.
Cheers,
David

dshox: your explaination seems to be right on the spot. This only happen under harsh vibration. I also have though that the AFM is almost gone but as stated it runs fine. Can you tell me where is this parts located? thanks in advance mate.

£30 part from a garage where the mechanic will take 30mins to complete the job. ok the diagnostic cost me £25 also but thats dirt cheap.
I went to Cutlers of Streetly in Walsall/Aldridge area - v good prices there. Considering the muppets near me in London wanted £120 + VAT for the diagnostic alone by shoving it on a rolling road, this puts things in perspective.
just get it into a good value for money garage.
