Default Will I need a remap

I have got an my98 UK turbo which has currently got a 2.5" cat back ninja exhaust and an HKS SSQV. I am aiming to fully decat my car after its MOT in Febuary. I realise that to get the best out of the mods I will need a remap at some point but can I safely use my car without it for a while or does it have to be done straight away.

Cheers

Martin

The decat will be ok, they can handle the change in boost for that, the worst part is your dv, now that it may have problems with.....

as tony says the decat will be fine although expect more popping from the exhaust.........To see the full benefit a remap via ecu like the apexi pcf would be a good buy and will be useful if you decide to mod further in the future.

Why would my dv make a difference Tony? Also is there much difference between a 2.5" and a 3" exhaust as in terms of performence?

2.5 with a 3 inch tail is probably your best bet, as for the dv, they have been known to mess up fuel/air ratio's and cause lean spots (which can lead to detting) so not a good idea.

i agree, i dont think its worth modding a car that far without having the engine management checked.

wen i first got my sti 2 it had a few mods on it and because our fuel isnt as good as the japs i had it checked by rc, they said it was not detting, but it was border line on the fuel mixture.

1 month later i got a apexi ecu to be safer, oh yeah and to have a bit more power

i have a full decat system 3" downpipe with 2.5" tsl centre section and tsl group n backbox on my terzo my98 with a few other engine mods and had to get a mappable ecu (apexi power fc) as the my98 ecu cant be mapped i was informed by tsl motorsport.
i would go carefull as you could end up with the engine running lean and causing detonation (not good).
