Rough guide:
TD05 18g (possibly a 16g...talk to Andy www.andyforrestperformance.com)
Apexi FC and good map (ie AndyF as you are in the North)
Sti TMIC
SX fuel reg/550cc injectors/Walbro pump
Green Cotton filter in stock airbox.
Ported headers from Harvey
Good exhaust, 2.5'' will do (Revolution?)
Sti clutch or a nice aftermarket ie AP Organic/Exeedy.
For 280 bhp you are chasing stock Sti performance and you UK engine will not rev/has not the Sti cams.
Graham.

Blimey Graham, that little lots a bit of overkill the guy wants 280 not 380, A lot of people reach near those numbers with a simple De-cat, panel, and a good remap/chip.

You cannot re-map pre 99 ecu unfortunately so you'd need something like a scoobyecu (chip) which can then be remapped by someone like Scooby Clinic | The UK's Largest Independent Subaru Specialists, not to sure about the cost of this route.
Or talk to AndyForrestPerformance about a Apexi PFC ecu for about £800, Andy is also alot closer to you

I used to have a 97 UK Classic @ various stages of tune via Jap Innovations.
Full decat including open mouth downpipe; scoobysport back box; panel filter; fuel pump; and slight raise in boost (1.1) courtesy of HKS EVC 5 boost controller and fuel cut defencer saw 294/ 290. Cost me approx £500.00 all in as the bits sourced were second hand.
Next stage saw addition of TD05 FE turbo; Powertec induction kit; samco hoses; FSE valve; apexi ecu mapped by Andy Forrest. This netted 320/320 and boost ran @ 1.4 (and allowed me to do away with the fuel cut). This lot cost me around £1300 which inclued the mapping but ecu was brand new so you could probably source cheaper again.
Stage 3 got a little bit silly and I ended up needing a new clutch to cope with the extra torque. There was still no need for me to upgrade the TMIC and I managed to retain the 380 standard injectors.
Knocklink/ boost gauge and upgraded brakes (4 pots) might also be things you want to budget for as well.

thats good info ! was looking at a chip but wasnt sure if i needed fuel pump and fcd as i thought the chip conpensated for fuel and fuel cut. thats the idea though so just under 300bhp would be nice. cheers guys !
