An Sti Type R with DCCD gearbox should not have ABS brakes, the ABS mechanism doesn't work with the adjustable centre differential.
This aplies to all Sti Type R's be they Sti 3 (MY97) Sti 4 (MY98) Sti 5 (MY99) or Sti 6 (MY00)
However, there is one anomally; in 1997 there was an MY98 2 door WRX type R which was essentially a plain WRX in a 2 door shell which had ABS, it also had the later centre cubby style dash (hence MY98). Although most of these are usually found on 'R' plates, there are some on 'S' plates (I've seen two in the flesh, and there was one with a 2.5 engine for sale on 22b a few weeks back).
