Default Better feel & road holding

Hope someone out there can help. I’ve got an 02 bug eye wrx it’s running about 320 BHP an when I put my foot down it’s all over the road. Anyone know anyway to get better feel from the steering wheel and keep it running in a straight line?
its the only thing messing up a top car.

Most people would probably suggest Eibach springs and a good geometry set up

Where are you in the country ?

There is a number of possible causes or a combination of them:

Get all the front end bushes checked over, paying particular attention to lower arm bushes and ball joints.

Geometry. If it hasn't been checked, get it done. Chances are, if the car has never had it checked before it will be out.

Tyre pressure can have a effect - especially with tramlining. Inflate to what is listed in the driver's door jam is a bare minimum, or higher if you drive hard or have bigger wheels.

Tyres. Mismatching brands on the same axle or a new tyre on one side and an older one on the other side will cause odd handling. Also check for uneven wear across each tyre (caused by dodgy geometry and pressures, or worn suspension).

As a note, if anyone ever figures a way to make the steering much more heavier than stock which will help it load up properly during cornering, I'm all ears.

Already got eibach springs fitted and had the geometry checked. Does feel better but still not as good as I would like.

All the bushes are good as far as I can tell, not done many miles since mot so shouldn’t be the problem. Never thought of checking if any of the tyres were newer than others. Thanks. One looks a lot newer. I’m due to get a new set of 4 so will see how its goes.

I’ve bin told that if you lower the steering rack with some spacers it gives you better feel. But think it sounds like a big job for passably not much difference. Also fitting a smaller steering wheel should help giving heavier feel. But i'm not sure about not having an airbag.

Solid rear droplinks and 22mm adj (or 24mm fixed) rear ARB if not already done. One of, if not the most cost effective suspension mods available IMHO..

Piece of Pi55 to fit and shouldn't effect your alignment.

Get a quick rack for the steering, that makes it heavier for sure! lol.
Mine felt like the power steering was not working when i drove it away after that mod. Unreal but definitely felt heavier, but i was told it aint, it is just more "positive" i was told! Hahaha. Yeah right.

Had the same problem with my classic WRX when I first got it.

It would lurch when accelerating or braking and give the feeling of torque steer that FWD's get.

Ive fitted the following and have a very nice predictable setup. Still squirms nicely under acceleration tho..

Eibachs all round
22mm Antiroll bars front and rear.
Whiteline Antiroll bar bushes all round.
Solid front and rear drop links.
Heavy duty whiteline rear Antiroll bar mounts.
Fully seem welded solid rear bulkhead (not the bar thats bolted there normally).
Front strut brace (makes little difference to be honest)
T1-R's all round with 32f 31r pressures.

Just want the bump steer mod now.

tyres?
road conditions?

I'm running circa 330 in my MY03 WRX and the Toyo T1S tyres hate these greasy roads

I have the Prodrive (ie Eibach) springs, Whiteline ARB and droplinks and Prodrive geometry settings. Nice composed set up, although would probably need to be stiffer still for the track.

Had 3 different makes of tyres on it when I bought it (!). Was feckin all over the place in the wet (handling like more like a 1960's 911 rather than a 4wd LOL).
Now have Toyo T1Rs, which are excellent in the wet.

My Newage WRX is running 273bhp, which would have been enough for things to get a bit hairy with the original supension !
