Default Intercooler and Cam Questions....

Hi all

In the process of building my car and I’ve come unstuck with a few key parts choices, namely an intercooler, and cams. I’ll keep to the point, I am looking for a car that comes on boost early as possible (for what I have), and to run a peak of around 500ft/lb torque with a nice flat curve

I currently have sorted the bottom end, have an early reversed inlet manifold,
rotated GT35 kit and re worked heads for the 2.5 block. (all sorted apart from the cams)

Whay I really want is to find out the optimum sizing for the induction needs (pipe sizing, total volume etc) so that I can get it made, and what sort of cams would be best to use.

Can anybody help me?

Thanks

Adam

I'm no engine builder, but I know for a fact that both Green and K&N can size you up an induction cone according to your power targets, from their universal motorsport ranges. As far as intercooler goes, you just want the biggest possible one you can fit up front.

If you wanted to boost to start low then the gt30r would be a better choice on the 2.5 ?
Also you don’t say what cams you are starting out with? When you start looking at billet or re profilled cams $ starts to add up dual valve springs etc.

You also need to think about drivability the higher the profile the less usable it becomes lower down the rpm where you want your boost. I would think that the v3 sti onward cams are good enough for what you want.

Not sure what you mean about the induction piping etc this would be defined by the intercooler, unless you are going to have one custom made.

Sorry, My mistake, didn't put that I was starting out with STI RA v2 cams and heads(although the heads are far from standard now .

Have you driven a car similar to mine with V3 cams in? how did it drive? good low down torque? I dont mind if it drops off around 5800-6200

Induction piping as in based on the turbo and set-up, what is the 'optimum' volume for the turbo that I'm using (for the pipework/intercooler (custom made)) I know going too big wont help lag, but too small and not efficent enough.
