Default Slipping clutch...DIY replacement?

The clutch on my 95 WRX (JDM) is starting to slip in the higher gears...

I'm going to buy an Exedy organic clutch (£345 incl. bearing...is this a good price?)... is it a big job to replace a clutch? I'd be doing it with help from a mechanical friend who's worked at such things a fair bit... he also has a full size car lift if that's beneficial for a lot of work under the car...?

How much would your average garage charge for such a task?

Is skimming the existing flywheel easy or do you need dedicated machinery (like a lathe?) to do it? Don't really want to have to fork out for a new flywheel too... nor do I want clutch judder from not doing the job...

Average garage at a guess around £90-£150

Skimming the flywheel is not always necessary but that depends?
I had my flywheel skimmed to make sure the surface was flat as my old clutch was 225mm dia & the new one was 230mm.

I used a local machine shop cost me about £25.

If you're gonna buy that clutch, it might be worth asking API how much for the clutch AND a lightened flywheel..... thats what i did, the clutch is diy-able, esp with the use of a ramp/lift..... not so easy on drive on ramps like i did it....!!

Don't expect the gearbox to be easy to get off after all those years either.... it'll more than likely be a little awkward....

A lightened flywheel, (from API) was a lovely mod, allowed the engine to rev much easier.

Not expensive either

£150.00 + VAT Exchange. £50.00 deposit pending return of old unit. Instantly refundable as soon as the old flywheel comes back to us - no quibble.

A garage would cost 200quid at least to change the clutch!! Done mine my self took about 7hrs though! Remember to withdraw the fork shaft!!! Not difficult, took most the time trying to undo the downpipe studs, you need to heat them up real good! Got a mate to skim flywheel 20quid only took 35mins 25mins of that was to clock it in!!
