Default Reset ecu on bugeye wrx

Just wondering how to reset the ecu on my bugeye wrx, the reason being is that i just dont think the car is running well, i feel as it sometimes lacks power sometimes, also im getting poor mpg, i was wondering if it could do with a new maf sensor as ive noticed sometimes the revs will drop right down and nearly stalls the car has nearly 109,000 miles on it so i suppose it is well due a new maf sensor. Any Help would be appreciated

Cost me £300 for one for a Bugeye - so not cheap!

I didn't realise it was faulty till I went for a remap and the mapper noticed strange readings. The car seemed to be running ok.

Apparently one test is to unplug it while the car idling - it should stall.

As for resetting - I don't think you can, the ECU is supposed to be a lot quicker at responding so there is no need. Can't really add anymore than that apart from get it sorted - you don't want to be running lean and risk damaging the engine.

Never seen this site before - it came up on google, but interesting information that might help.

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | ECU Reset browse

Going to browse around if for a while - look good!

Mine came from Xtreme Scoobies who were doing the remap - but it was an official Subaru part.

Just checked it was £250 + VAT = £293.75. I remember them saying it was the first they had seen fail, apparently usually very reliable. (Probably the induction kit I fitted that killed it - I took it off before the new one was fitted)

Mileage at the time about 45K - so I suppose with your high mileage maybe it has 'worn out' or become contaminated, whatever happens to them!

Apparently, reading through posts here.

I can remember disconnecting mine and the car stalling, but I don't know if it was before or after the new one - I've a feeling it was only after it was changed i heard about that test.

Hopefully someone more technical can suggest a more definitive test - but keep it off boost until it's sorted. Reading through other posts though an erratic idle certainly points towards a failing/failed MAF.

Know anyone else with a Newage so you can 'borrow' the MAF? Easy to change, but then again, if you accidentally damage it buying 2 would be a nightmare lol

Burtys

I've got a spare working MAF sat on my desk.....PM me and I'll stick it in the post and you can try it out

Bugeye MAF's are about 70 odd quid. You don't need to buy the plastic surround, just the MAF casette.

Any help ?

Burty

Sorry about the late reply but I have to wait until the kids are in bed

I'll check my PM's now

I'm always happy to try and help, you never know when I might need a favour from someone on scoobynet.

You beat me to it Shaun....was going to make the same offer.

If someone on here paid 250 quid for the newage MAF, I would question the price

If Burty is local and wants to 'drop round' he is more than welcome.

Disconnect your battery for a few hours which will reset the ECU back to factory settings, however if there is a problem with a sensor somewhere this wll only be a short term solution so get it checked!

Burty

It went out in the post today

Andy Forrest has a wealth of experience at mapping and comes highly recommended.

To get the best out of the car I'd think about changing the filter and getting rid of the centre cat. Should see earlier spool up from the TD04 with probably 260 ish BHP (up from the factory 215 for the UK bugeye). Remaps usually start at £500 plus VAT depending on any special offers on at the time (group buys etc).

Cheers
