Front mount intercooler
Bigger turbo
550cc injectors
Tubular manifold with larger uppipe
Full 3" exhaust from turbo back
Fuel pressure regulator
Cold air induction kit
Boost controller
Remap (From 99 onwards the standard ecu can be remapped, for earlier cars you will need an aftermarket ecu.

Internals are a must if you want it to last more than a week.

R.B can you quantify that comment, as i have seen several STI's running close to or just over 400bhp on standard internals with no issues.

Maybe the new sti`s but the older ones are more fragile.

This guy is asking for help and if he is going to be spending the money that i know you need then this is my advice.

As for quantify my opinion i will leave that to the rest of the community on here.

Ive been running subaru`s for 8 years now so i do have a little experience

I also agree that the standard sti internals are more than upto the job of handling 400bhp. I have seen many uk turbo's running 400bhp or there abouts with no issues.
It all depends on heat managment and how well the car is mapped!
No need to spend an extra £4000 on a re-build for no reason.

But it wouldn't hurt having that in a high savings account for a rainy day.

what version MY is it ?

basically as banny says though

turbo - try an MD321 from lateral performance
injectors - 550cc will do
fpr - fuelab
headers - GT-spec
downpipe - hayward and scott 3" open neck
exhaust - 3" revolution system(quiet) or blitz nur spec R(loud)
induction kit - K+N57i
intercooler - front mount, autobahn88 is what i have
clutch - exedy organic
boost solenoid - 3 port from Bob Rawle
remap - TEK3 if v5 or 6 , apexi if v3 or 4 .

not sure on how tough the gearbox is , i know it's a group N on the type R but cannot comment on whether it will hold the torque your likely to be getting , same goes for the internals...

don't really need a boost controller , my controller is my right foot

Dont the sti's have 550cc injectors anyway as standard?

As above though really, IMO I think the standard internals are capable of those power outputs (911 who posts on here I think has an STI V3 running close to 400bhp with standard internals)

However what I would factor into this is how high a mileage the car currently has, the history of it (do you know the owner, how its been serviced etc), If you dont know the history and it is a high mileage, then personally I would go for new oversize internals, slight overbore on the block, new bearings maybe a crank as well

440cc injectors as standard I think.

Also, dont the type Rs come with forged pistons as standard?

I thought the stis had pink injectors which I thought were the 550cc., and yes they should have forged internals as standard

You'll be lOOking around £6k i would've thought for the "Go" mods. Worth also considering some money for some "Stop" mods.

Here's some prices/alternatives:

turbo - try an MD321 from lateral performance £1500-ish
injectors - 550cc will do £500
fpr - fuelab
headers - GT-spec £450
downpipe - hayward and scott 3" open neck £350 (wrapped)
exhaust - 3" revolution system(quiet) £290
induction kit - K+N57i, APS CAIK, K&N Typhoon (all circa £180-200)
intercooler - hybrid front mount (£300) APS/Monster/Hyperflow (£1000)
clutch - exedy organic
boost solenoid - 3 port from Bob Rawle, Scoobymania £120+vat
remap - TEK3 if v5 or 6, (£695) apexi if v3 or 4 (£750)

i have a subaru impreza wrx95 at the mo but i want something faster. i am only 20 and the insurance is affordable for this car but the sti's go up quite a bit? there is a nice green subaru impreza uk 2000 for sale on here for 6500 which is 390bhp!realy nice car.

if i bought a uk model would i have to modify it alot more? or could i just buy a big turbo, top of the range mods etc?

what you think guys?

I think, if you're 20, you'll struggle to get insurance on a heavily modified subaru with the power output you're after! Unless you're not declaring the mods

a UK at 390 bhp should already have uprated internals , , , , if it doesn't then you will have to budget for that lot as well

and gearbox , clutch , etc etc etc

believe me it aint cheap , I KNOW
