TD04L Turbo
Hi, I have a MY98 Classic Turbo, and was wondering if I replaced the turbo with a TD04L Turbo unit, if it would be any better? Also now that car has cover quite a few miles 112K I was thinking of buying a 2.5L Short Block.
Question is should I buy usual STI or Closed Deck one. And also is it true that I can just swap the other parts from the 2.0L engine?
Thanks

Er... that's a bit all over the place m8.
First off, you already have a TD04 turbo. A turbo upgrade such as a td05 16g will cost around £1500 with a remap and supporting mods. This should give you roughly 320-340bhp.
A 2.5 engine build is a whole other pony.
You're looking at £3500 minimum.
Need to know your power goals really. Don't forget to factor in brake/suspension upgrades.

What I'm looking to do really is build the power up in stages, so yes I will uprate the brakes and susspension. But I thought that rather than try to squeeze more power from the 2.0 engine, maybe I should start with the 2.5 engine. And have found an advert on flat4online website. They sell the 2.5L short block with gasket set for £1595, and state that you can swap the other bits from the 2.0L engine. They also offer a 2.5L Closed Deck Short Block for £2595 approx. If it is true that the parts from the 2.0L and 2.5L are interchangable, then which engine block would be better? Or is there any reasons why I should use the geniune 2.5L Heads etc.
Thanks for the info on the turbo unit also, Keith
