Ive been putting some serious thought into getting a boost controller but don't have the cash to buy an Apexi elecronic unit at the mo'. Does anyone have an opinion on the manual controllers? I was only thinking of putting the boost up to about one bar (its running .7/.8 bar right now.

As per tidgy and trunk is risky turning up the boost without the equipment. Make sure you have a knock sensor and air fuel meter (preferrably wideband) as a bare minimum.

Saying that my classic ran at 0.9 stock on unleaded, i have a decat and panel filter and its now running 1.1 bar on vpower without any other mods. uk scoobs run very rich so on a good fuel theres room for a little extra...

Also, theres a few people that say its worth even running a dawes at the standard boost pressure as the dawes allows the turbo to spool up as fast as it can, due to there being no bleed off of the air pressure... I've ordered one for this purpose, cant argue at 18 quid
