Default TEK 2. Licence included?

As title, does the power engineering TEK 2 upgrade include the ECUTEK licence?

Anyone?
Previous owner had the tek 2 map installed, which I thought would have included the licence, especially at £600!
But according to a well known tuner, the licence wasn't included.
Basically, I want ot know whether its going to cost me £300 for a remap, or £650!

As far i'm aware, it depends wether the license is 'open'..... but you'd be best off to ask whoever's gonna map it for you.....

The licence is now part of the ECU.
Just that the code for the tune by PE will be locked.

What will happen if you go to another tuner is that they will overwrite that tune with one of thier own.

Once ECUTEKED the licence is burned to the ECU.
Even if a standard map is put back in the car the ECU will still retain the "standard tuner licence"

No, you should be paying full mapping price, LESS £150, which IIRC is the cost of the license*.

Steven

*Note, some tuners may charge less than this.

NO..

With powerstation you'll only pay "dyno time".
There will be no licence fee to pay for as it's in the ECU as I stated above.

May have to query this with the tuner then.

How much should a remap cost, roughly?
I have a MY99 UK Turbo with decat exhaust, filter and tek 2.

Looking to add VF35/TD05 16g and ported headers.

Also: only PE will be able to see their values. This could mean that a re-map will be cheaper there because everyone else will have to start from scratch, whereas theyll be able to tweak their existing map.

I have always found PE to be very expensive. £150 for a 10 minute geometry setup was ridiculous.
What are they like for mapping?

Andy you are missing the fact that MY99-00 roms can be locked by a mapper so that any tuner even the mapper who did it HAS to use another licence, its the square box that is either ticked or not ticked.

So the Tek 2 may be locked, easy for any mapper to find out though as the programming software will tell you just b4 you reflash.

So be wary with the bold statement as depending on the age of the ecu it could well be locked.

cheers

bob

PE charged me £250+VAT to remap a TEK2 from TD04 to VF28 turbo.
But for me that was alot to stump up to get someone else to map it, hence why I now have an Apexi and probably play with the map every week ....

Maybe worth mentioning here that if you buy a car with a locked in Ecutek licence, if you ask your tuner to send the ECU back to the nice guys at Ecutek HQ, they will initially check that it does actually have a licence, then unlock it so you can have it remapped without paying for another licence fee.
All you pay is the postage

Bad news for me was that the TeK 2 was "locked" by my previous mapper so I had to start again with a new licence

Good news was that I chose Bob rawle to start again

does this mean that the I can claim back from EcuTeK the original licence fee because I have paid twice ?

I guess it will depend on people availability and workload but they have turned them round same day for me. Best to get your tuner to contact them first.

Has anyone had any experience of PE's mapping abilities? Good or bad.

Mapped my car for VF28 and it was fine. Fuelling was nice and safe, not det and 320BHP on their RR.

I used to use them to tune my Ford RS's too years ago. Mervyn used to do those until he moved to ECUTEK. Mervyn doesn't map for PE anymore. Chris Todd does most of their mapping now.

If the Tek2 remap consumes an ecutek license, it should be no problem for your mapper to get back the cost of a license from Ecutek.

The early tek2 remaps were done at a time before licenses were even thought of, so they effectively are unlicensed. I have come across this myself and it was resolved easily.

Just spoke to PE. They said that they don't lock the map, but the dongle code must match the map code to make any alterations possible??
They also said that it would cost £250+vat for them to re-map for my turbo upgrade. Not a bad price, would just like to hear more things about their mapping abilities.
