throtle sticking at 5000 rpm

throtle sticking at 5000 rpm
Hi all was looking for some advice / help .
I have a uk 1988 impreza , When i hit around 5000 rpm the throttle sticks ,wont take any more throtle and also wont come off, i try tapping the throttle to kick it off and eventually it does kick down ,but it takes a minuite or two, Can be quite scary especially when hitting a corner. car goes lovley below 5000rpm ,
any ideas ...

Sounds more severe than my 98, the guys on here have suggested spraying carb cleaner around the throttle body to try and clean off any carbon deposits that are making the throttle flaps stick... Job for the weekend for me lol
