Advice on Sensible Mods - OE ECU limitations !!
Hey Guys,
Was just wondering to what level of tuning I can goto before a remap is needed.
I currently have a Green Cotton Panel Filter, ProDrive IC Pipes, ScoobySport backbox. I am planning on getting a decatted center section next but was wondering to what level I can goto on the standard ecu and roughly what power gains can be had with the above simple mods. I am not looking for monster power because basically I cant afford it plus I want to retain some level of reliability.
BTW: My car is an MY2000 UK Impreza 2000 Turbo. Thanks in advance for any advice, Regards
Chris

Chris,
UK Classic Turbo's usually run a decat/sports cat exhaust system and uprated filter without issue as long as you use SUL (prominent mappers words and my experience). However, I'd consider fitting a knocklink just to be safe. I got one when I was running a sports cat system on my MY99 and all it did was tell me that the car was fine. Better safe than sorry though.
Anything more and you're really looking at a remap!
To get the best out of your mods, you'll also need a remap; it does make a big difference!

Agreed with above - get a remap for the best benefit .sometimes your car can run lean if you've decatted without a remap and this is not good. you will notice a huge difference plus loads of mid range because you'll have the smaller TD-04 turbo.
This will limit your power to 270-280ish - any more and you'll need a bigger turbo or at least a TD-04 hybrid and then you'll start to put undue stress on the Classic gearbox which is not super strong.
uprate your fuel pump as well if you can - to be on the safe side.
Dont think you'll get left behind only running this 'mild' setup - i run this and i've surprised myself what i've kept up to.
Always use the highest Octane possible - preferebly V-Power.
