Default Engine removal

My mate bought an STI Ra the other week and it needs a bottom end rebuild. Many people have advised on sending it to various experts but it all comes at a cost.
So....... we have attempted to remove the engine, hopefully to try and reduce the cost but have hit a snag. The engine doesn't want to be seperated from the gearbox.
Can someone please let me know if the clutch fork somehow has to be removed in order to seperate the engine from the gearbox. Thanks.

you have to remove the 10mm allen bolt cover from side of gearbox and i think it is an m6 bolt that goes in the shaft remove this to seperate box and engine.
