Top or Front Intercooler?
Hi,
Further to my thread on remap options i was just browsing fleabay and spotted some good prices on front intercoolers. If i end up getting a power fc for my car am i going to see much benefit over the top mount in the end? bearing in mind i will only have a standard turbo, full decat and panel filter on my 98...
I know the FMIC creates a small pressure loss and a bit of lag but are the benefits enough if it were mapped with one on?

If you simply fit an FC then your stock TMIC will be great.
If you target 350 bhp, then the TMIC will cope, but a bigger one will keep 350 bhp coming longer.
If you venture over 350 then (imho) go for a proven FMIC and get stuck-in!
The comments on more lag/pressure loss I feel are NOT what I experienced when the car was remapped after the FMIC with AndyF doing the cleaver bit. (1.5 bar on a V8 TMIC, 1.65 on a Harvey Hybrid FMIC, no other changes to engine, none.
I've been there and done that.

Thanks for the info, will aim for getting the FC set up in the new year sometime. after its mapped i dont think i would make much more than 280-300 with a full revolution system and panel filter anyway would i?

Agreed that for just a decat and remap then the std 98 cooler is fine, but if you change the turbo then start thinking about a new cooler immediately, max they can safely cope with is around 310-320bhp, even the STi3/4 variant.
