Default oil pressure

had some gauges recently, someone questioned my oil pressure last week,
it was flickering on idle between 1.6 and 1.8bar,oil temp was 90,my oil on last service was shell helix 5-40,which i read was ibit thin,so anyway just so happens it was due for a 60 month service today,so told dealer to put some thicker shell in 10-40,guess what still running the 1.6/1.8bar,hope this is nothing for me to worry about, most of you guys on hear iv read are running 2.5bar,is this the norm.
thankyou

Mine on 10w40 semi runs about 3 to 3.5 bar on idle and about 7 bar on cold startup. Once fully warmed up with revs it is about 5.5 to 6.5 bar.
It is strange that you haven't seen an increase in oil pressure with a thicker oil. Did they definately change the oil?

I can only confirm my pressures are the same as jaytc2003's. I am using 15w 50 Silkolene Pro R oil.

At 100 degC 5W-40 oil has the same viscosity as 10W-40 oil by definition. 10W-40 is only thicker when its cold. Not surprised you've not seen any difference.

The oil temp shouldnt get to 100 tho, mine is steady at 90,unless obviously its being ragged/hot day etc etc.
