Default Pipe inside up-pipe - porting

got the up-pipe off today! and looking down (from top) I can see a smaller pipe inside! how do I go about smoothing airflow here?

cut notches and fold back????

leave alone???

I guess I best not port top side as I don't want to take turbo off and port that also!

Don't bother with the up-pipe as it can quicken the spool, leaving it as it is.

Just do the headers and that will be sufficient.

How did you do it - I tried to get mine off the other day to remove the heat shield as it's rattling badly.

Looked like a total nightmare, any tips?

Cheers

Tip - it is a total nightmare

one of the bolts topside is really awkward to get to! - and mine rounded off (be carefull)
It took about an hour and a half to carefully chisel through nut to get it off

then when it's all loose (this is with manifold already off car)
I had to undo one engine mount and jack the engine up a bit on one side to allow the pipe to be wiggled down (not too bad a job)

anyone got any info on porting topside?

I didn't port the top of the up pipe as I don't think it should be done. The entry to the hot side of the turbo can be enlarged though.

I have pictures of this on my project thread.

At the header end, split the inner pipe into four or six segments and flute it open.
At the turbo end, just tidy it up.
There are good gains to be had from a purpose designed up-pipe to match the porting of the headers.

There should be an inner sleeve pipe thingy, which can be split 'somehow' and bent to meet the outer pipe.

No exactly like I have said.
The gains from porting the uppipe are not that much, simply because of its construction. I have been unable to determine why it is made in the manner it is because there is a lot of turbulance inside the OE uppipe.

I'm confused!

the only pipe I can see that can be 'fluted' is a bit of pipe is a couple of inches down from the turbo side.
