Default NEED HELP PLEASE

When i got in from work today i decided to fit my new blue dash light bulbs. It was all going well. I removed the 4 screws holding the dash facia. Removed all the plugs from the back off the switches. Then a removed the 4 screws holding the dials in place then i pulled it out got my hand behind it and removed the 3 connectors than pulled out the speedo cable. I managed to get it out ok and replace the bulbs.
Put it all back together Turned the lights on and checked the switchs. Every thing ok.
When i poped out just a min ago i noticed that the speedo is not working. The car was running fine. I was giving it some then all of a sudden the rev limiter was kicking in. now the check engine light is on to. It wont rev over 4k. So i came back home and took all the dash apart again to have another go at connecting the speedo cable. I pushed the speedo cable on as hard as i could so i thought that must be on now.
Went to take it on a test run. Same thing. No speedo. Check engine light and rev limiter kicking in at 4k. This has done my head in. Can any one tell me what the prob is? Is the check engine light and the rev limiter on because the speedo isnt working?
Thanks
