Hi guys,

Anyone fitted a Defi water temperature gauge??

Ive got one for my MY99 classic and, as well as the sensor, I have an alloy piece of pipe with the thread in it for the sensor .... this is about 40mm across and obviously goes on one of the coolant hoses .... after its been cut and then both halves hose clipped onto this piece!

Question is .... where and how??

Any help would be appreciated!

 

It gets inserted into the top radiator hose, as the hot coolant enters the rad here and it will be representative of the engine temp.

Someone else has suggested that the coolant enters at the bottom of the radiator and exits at the top?? .... any ideas??

Also, how would I go about draining some of the coolant off .... to stop flooding the country!!

Really want to try and do this myself!

I think the water enters at the top but i'm not 100% on this. With the car running you can feel the temperatures of the top and bottom hoses and that will tell you.
Most radiators have a drain plug on them, but if not you'll just have to loosen the radiator hose to let enough water out (all of it if it's the bottom hose your putting the sensor in!).

 

Thanks again mate .... my "source of knowledge" reckons it is the top hose now .... phew!!

 

RB5 69....YHM For the record, the thermostat is at the engine end of the bottom hose so when it opens hot water enters the top of the radiator (cool water enters engine through the stat so hot water is pulled into the top) which is the opposite to what happens on most cars. That way you get the reading of water temperature in the engine by putting the sender in the top hose
