Hi guys, just bought my impreza a week ago and ive noticed today smoke is coming from the bottom right of the engine and drops of oil in the tail pipe is this comon on 98 uk cars, its done 91k std apart from filter and exhaust, cheers

 

Smoke from the righthand side of the engine is almost certainly a leaky rocker cover gasket (the oil drops directly onto the exhaust header that side). Nothing to really worry about if its not a big leak. Can be replaced diy its just a bit fiddly.

Drops of oil in the tail pipe???????????? Very much doubt its oil. Is the exhaust smokey when hot?

 

cheers jonny thats a relief, will get it sorted to be on the safe side, exhaust is a little bit smokey but not much as for the black stuff guess i will have to see what it smells like, could it be dirty petrol?
