Help!! knocklink activity started, could it be caused by faulty coilpack???????????
Hi everyone, last weekend changed my drivers side rocker cover gasket and when removing the coilpacks i unfortuately managed to crack the end on one and 2 little bits from the end broke clean off leaving only 3/4 of the end still intact and the spring was clearly visable.
Managed to superglue the bits back on and when that was dry wrapped a bit of insulation tape around it before putting the rubber sleeve back on.
put everything back together again and the car drives fine with no misfire at normal driving speed but a soon as i put my foot down the knocklink (detalarm) lights up all the leds right up to red, but this only happens on full boost,
Could this be because the coilpack cannot produce a efficent enough spark at high revs because of the cracked end?? and would this produce detoniton?
anyone any ideas??
car is a 1996 version 2 wrx
cheers
Jim

Significant mis-firing, back-firing you can hear will light up the detalarm.
So will detonation though so best be sure.
I put bad plugs in my scooby (they were iridiums unsutiable for scoob coil packs) and that caused the detalarm to light up. Also caused major hesitation and some back-firing so the detalarm was a minor indication.
