clutch upgrade
ive started getting a crunch when going into 3rd while driving hard(ish), rather than replacing with a standard clutch im thinking of an upgrade, dont want to spend to much tho, what are my options? people have quoted me anything from £500 - £1000+, ideally i dont want to spend £500, there seems to be clutches on ebay going for alot less but i dont know which are good and which arnt? any advice people? the car is a MY00 uk car, used mainly on a weekend and the occasional run up the strip. any advice would be appreciated, thanks

A crunch indicates either a dragging clutch or the syncros wearing in the gearbox.
If the pedal is operating the slave cylinder/ clutch release arm properly then I'd be thinking it's "more likely" to be the gearbox.
Most impreza clutches I've seen start to slip through wear of the friction material and not drag.
Or it could simply be low on gear oil.

Through the dip stick under the intercooler on the turbo side.
Attach a pipe and funnel to this or else it will spit it back out as fast as you try to fill it otherwise.

Yup that's the one.
Ok so it's not simply oil level related then.
I wouldn't say knackered, might just need a syncro. (Although I spose that's not the cheapest of jobs)
Need to rule out other things first.
How clean is the oil /when was it last changed.
