Default Warming the engine up from cold...

I've been told all different ways of doing this, and wondered what the best option is through winter.

Option A) Start the car up, and leave it 5 mins before gently driving until fully warm.

Option B) Start the car up and immediatley drive it gently until engine warm.

My engine has just been rebuilt and has only done 2,000 miles so want to look after it the best I can!

Cheers, MikeyB

Personnally I use option B.

Letting it idle means it warms up slower and sits in the most wear area for longer..

I just drive below 3000rpm and off boost.

My regime is somewhere in between. A couple of minutes at fast idle then gentle driving until temp. gauge is at normal then no boost until the oil temp. is up to 70c at least.

Thanks guys, I'll use option B which is what I've always done on all my cars.

Cheers!

I stay at as low load as possible, between 1500-2500 rpm with no boost until oil temp is 50 or so, then gently loosen up until oil reaches full temp, about 5 constant driving after the water is up to temp.

What is a good oil temp to use full boost?
