I was thinking (dangerous at the best of times) would it be possible to take off my standard exhaust centre pipe, break out the cat with a pokey stick and put it back on the car, this should give a performance advantage while retaining some silencing?

Better still I could buy a second hand one and do it to that.

What are peoples thoughts?

 

Decat centre's are only £50 (without resonator), so doesn't seem worth it.
