Default MY99 Coilpack problem?

My wife used my car and reported misfiring and hesitation a couple of weeks ago that appeared whilst cold, the car then started running normally after a mile or so. When I tried the car all was fine and remained fine until this morning.....

Seems like the issue has reappeared - feels like she's running only on 3 cylinders, I disconnected the leads in turn and there was no discenrable difference, the car runs lumpy seemingly regardless of which lead was disconnected. The plugs are platinum 7s, 10k miles old, leads changed to magnecors at the same time, the MAF was changed 12k miles ago, along with the O2 sensor.

I strongly suspect the coilpack, can I test it? If I need a new one, where's cheapest, main dealer?

Cheers.

Mark.

I have a coilpack for an MY99 if you find that you need one. It will be a damn sight cheaper than going to the dealers too!

I had some running problems a while back and bought one to try - it wasn't that... so I now have a spare.

TBH - I think the coilpacks are pretty robust on the MY99 and rarely fail.

Coil packs usually fail when they get hot rather than improve.

I would look at spark plug and gaps first if I were you.

After much fiddling around and head scratching I found that the cambelt had slipped. It's a Gates belt, changed 5k miles ago with a new tensioner to boot!
