Angry Virgin With Problems

Hello All,

This is my first post and i'm asking for some info already.

Just bought 99MY UK Impreza and there is a surging/hunting problem on idle after a run. I have Unplugged MAF lead....which i'd read about here and the car cuts out, which i think means the MAF is okay?

Anyone heard/had similar things happening and know what the problem may be?

Just like some info before i get stung at a dealers.

Cheers

Hello and welcome to SN

try do a diagnostics on your car, follow the instructions in the below link

http://www.saxonfields.freeserve.co....iag%20Page.htm

i think it could be a faulty lamda sensor, sounds like your maf is healthy since it cuts out

Thumbs up Changes to exhaust

Cheers for reply,

Previous owner has replaced standard exhaust..removing lower CAT...i think.. with prodrive unit (still have standard unit) would this have taken out one of the sensors? Sorry for incompetence, just starting to learn.

Hi - does the car have a dump valve fitted?
I read on the instructions of my dump valve that if the car idels un-evenly it could be that that requires adjusting?
I would guess that even a factory standard valve could leak air thus confuse the airflow meter.
In fact wheren't the 98 models included in the ones listed to have "known issues" with the dump valves? Where have i read that?

Cheers
Richard

Post Problem found - Cheers

Undertook the diagnostics check last night....oxygen/lambda sensor issue.

It looks like there are 3wires going into a 4-way plug.

There are a few advertised on the internet but none specific for MY99 TURBO 3-wire. I'd rather pay extra and be sure i'm buying the right part.

Where is the best place..(cheapest) to get these from. Looks simple enough to change without paying dealer labour charges.

Any help appreciated
