Hi jonny are you getting fault code 24 (iacv), ive got a version 1 STI and it's always playing up (revs hold at 1500rpm sometimes). You could try removing the 4 bolts (10mm spanner req.) that hold it in place, intercooler has to off come first. Then un-plug the wiring connector and gently pull back the valve - be careful not to damage the gasket and also dont drop the rubber seal thats inside the valve. When the valve is out of the way if you look inside the manifold you'll see a silver disc, remove this (small screwdriver req. to help flick it out).

Now if you look at the i.a.c.v you should see an opening inside it, part of it is green (black if its got carbon on it). With a screwdriver gently flick the green part to see if it moves freely, for best results give the opening a good spray with brake cleaner (halfords - £4) and give the silver disc a good spray and clean. Then re-fit the above

If you want to be brave you can unscrew the two top screws on the i.a.c.v (make a note of the position of the valve head as this will mess with your tick-over speed). Gently pull the solenoid of the valve (magnet inside it,so it'll be tight), with that removed you will see a post sticking up. with your fingers you should be able to turn the post left and right with no restrications.

It worked for me for about 6 months but it came back to haunt me so i bought a second hand one, will fit that when it arrives.

Sorry for the size of this post but i hope it has some help for you...

Would like to see some pictures of your STI 1 mate. Have fun
