Default Do I need a CAT?

I have a MY93 WRX without a CAT is 1993 old enough that I can legally run it without a CAT and still pass an MOT?

Not if its an import i run exactly the same car as you (without a cat) and it passed the emissions test easily

Unless the rules have changed yet again, Pre April 1995 cars do not need to go through the cat test even if they are fitted. This was the case with my scoobs first mot fresh from import MY95. I showed the test station the import paperwork which verified manufacture date and thats what he told me. Like I said the rules may have changed since.
If any MOT testers out there know different please let me know as I am now running a full decat system.
Cheers
Del

Thought it was pre april 1992? There have been loads of v long threads on this topic and loads of different opinions e.g. it may be illegal to not have cats even if you pass emissions test. Worth doing a search on here, sorry don't know how to put up a link

i think its pre Aug 1992 but there was some leeway in the exact date but since early import imprezas are not on the database it defaults to a non cat test (this is what i was told when i had my MOT done in July this year)

check the VOSA website, all the info is there. My 92 wrx with full decat passed the test easy anyway. It is a different setup for imports as I believe upto 1995 they can run 2 tests if needs be. If a car fails the cat test, then they can run a BET (Basic Emissions Test) and if it passes that then you are okay.
