Default Nasty "clunking" from wheels

My father in law came up to visit in his type r impreza yesterday and when he puts in on full lock it makes a really violent clunk and the wheel jolts? we took the wheels off and it looks like one of the calipers was sticking so we free'd it up and put in some new pads and hoped this would cure it but again as soon as you put some lock on the steering it still does it??

Any help is welcome as he is very worried

Many thanks
Mike
